Benjamin & DesPortes, P.C., practices exclusively in the area of criminal defense. Steve Benjamin founded the firm in 1979, and established an aggressive practice in the state and federal trial and appellate courts. He is the Treasurer of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In 2004, he was elected a Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. Betty Layne DesPortes joined the firm in 1993, after obtaining her master's degree in forensic science. She is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Combining experience and specialized knowledge, the firm enjoys a reputation for vigorously pursuing all avenues of defense.
